Music has been the throughline of my life for over six decades--from childhood piano lessons to conducting one of the Pacific Northwest's finest large choral ensembles and now composing the music I once conducted.

After taking my first piano lessons in 1970, I went on to study violin, trumpet, horn, oboe, guitar, and voice. Piano remained as my primary instrument, however, and I earned a bachelor's degree in Piano Performance from California State University, Northridge in 1985. 

During my college years, I played keyboards with a band called Entourage, playing at clubs in the L.A. area, and once performing live on the Merv Griffin television show. During my studies I also developed a great love for choral music, earning a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting while serving as Graduate Assistant to Pacific Chorale's Artistic Director (Laureate) John Alexander.

After relocating to the Seattle area, I completed a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Washington, working with maestri Abraham Kaplan and Joan Conlon.

In 1997, I began directing a small community chorus called Kirkland Choral Society where I would remain for 27 years. During my tenure, KCS grew from about a dozen members to a roster of over 100 singers, becoming one of the Puget Sound region's leading large-scale choral ensembles and partnering with Philharmonia Northwest to perform many of the greatest works for chorus and orchestra.

After my final season with KCS, I decided to focus on composing, and have begun by writing choral music--drawing on over 40 years of experience directing choirs.

My style is melodic and accessible, with an emphasis on expressive setting of the text.
